Mark Schultz – What It Means To Be Loved

I heard Mark Schultz on KLove last night sing this song live and it was absolutely amazing.  Personally, I don’t know how someone can make it through a song like this without welling up.  Mark definitely has a knack with his lyrics and vocals and they pack quite a punch with a moving message.

I would simply like to say that this song made me cry so hard the first time I heard it.

When my mom was pregnant with me, the doctors at one of the hopsitals said to abort me for her own safety. Of course my mom, like the mother in this song, wanted to hold on to me and give me whatever chance at life I had. They they transferred to a different hospital.

I was taken out three months early, and weighed 2 pounds, 10 ounces. The doctors didn’t believe I was going to live, and if I was, I would have a lot of problems (brain, nervous, respiratory).

I survived the first year, and was constantly connected to a tank of oxygen with breathing tubes.

And as is says here, I’m “out to prove the doctors wrong”. And I do look a lot like my mother.

So here I am, 17 years old, a Junior in high school, and perfectly healthy.

Thank you for not giving up on me, Mom. I love you.
